Every person loves to pamper themselves every once and a while, especially with a good manicure. Getting your nails done is a form of relaxation as well as good proper care for your nails. There are many different manicure options to choose from, including gel polish and regular nail polish. With the breakdown of the pros and cons of both, you will realize which is best for you with your next manicure.

Gel Nail Polish

Gel polish is originally referred to nail extensions made by using a soft gel product that is cured under an ultraviolet or L.E.D light. Gel polish is relatively new in the polish world and is known as a soak-off polish.

UV and LED curing is a chemical process where a chain reaction creates heat and the gel begins to set. When the gels sets, it leaves a residual sticky layer on top that’s removed with a lint free cloth.

Pros of Gel Polish

*Long lasting: Gel manicures are known for lasting a lot longer than regular nail polish. A gel manicure can last up to two weeks if properly taken care of.

*Zero drying time: No drying time! When curing the gel polish under UV or LED light, the light sets the polish in place in a matter of minutes.

*Perfect nails: No chipping or smudges of the nail. Because the gel polish dries so quickly, you don’t have to worry about messing up your nails with any activity.

Cons of Gel Polish

*Rough removal: The removal process can be rough. Using nail polish remover and a cotton ball to wipe off the polish will not work. You must soak your nails and file off whatever is left on the nail.

*Costly: Gel manicures do cost more than regular polish.

*Can be damaging: Gel manicures are known to damage your real nails in the long run. They are known to weaken the nail and can cause them to become brittle over time.

Regular Nail Polish

Everyone knows the good olé fashion regular nail polish, or also known as normal nail polish. It was the most common and most fashionable nail polish for nails until 2010, when gel polish came to the market.

To put it simply, normal nail polish is a lacquer where the ingredients been refined over the years to protect nails against drying out and cracking. When receiving a manicure with regular air dry polish, a professional will lay down a base coat, three polish coats and a top coat. A regular manicure only lasts up to a week and can chip quite easily.

Pros of Regular Polish

*Changeable: It is easy to change the color if you do not like it. You can also experiment with nail art and wipe off if you don’t like it.

*Affordable: Regular nail polish manicures are more affordable than gel polish manicures.

*Regular polish is safer: They are safer than gel polish. You are not exposing your skin to any harmful lights during the process. Also, your nails will not become weakened or brittle with regular polish.

Cons of Regular Polish

*Hours of drying time: Regular nail polish takes forever to dry! Sometimes nail polish can take up to an hour or more to fully dry.

*Chips easily: Regular polish manicures have a reputation of chipping more easily.

*Multiple coats of polish: It can take multiple coats to get the shade you want. Because regular nail polish is a lot lighter, it can take a while to get your nails to match the color of the polish bottle.

With these two types of polishes becoming the most popular in the nail industry, it is important to know what is best for your nails. I hope by reading this article, that it helped you make a good decision of what is best for your nails. Now, go ahead a pick out your favorite color and go get your nails done!

The ultrasonic cavitation treatment is a non-surgical, fat reduction procedure. The treatment makes use of low frequency ultrasound to target fat cell membranes with a strong ray of pressure. The structure of the fat cells cannot tolerate the pressure of the rays, therefore, they disintegrate into liquid form. So, how does this treatment really work?

How it Works

During the cavitation treatment process, membranes that are required for the survival of fat cells are disrupted. Fat cells are compromised of triglycerides. When exposed to a strong pressure wave, they form into liquid and travel to the liver through the lymphatic and vascular systems as part of the natural metabolic process.

Benefits of the Cavitation Treatment

*It is versatile: this procedure can be applied on almost any body part where there is excess fat. The most common spots include the abdomen, thighs, back, and buttocks.

*It is non-invasive: the cavitation treatment does not require a surgical performance. The procedure strongly relies on frequency waves and does not cause physical trauma.

*It is painless: during this procedure, you do not experience any pain or discomfort, even after the procedure is done. There are no risks involved in this procedure.

*It is easy: to get the best benefits from the cavitation treatment, you need to drink lots of water, eat healthy, and maintain a good exercise program. Regular visits develop the best results.

*It is effective: when you are having a hard time losing weight with exercise and diet, the cavitation treatment may provide the most effective results for you. This procedure can be used to reshape your body, eliminate cellulite, and get the figure you always dreamed of.

Who Should Not Try the Cavitation Treatment

Since it is not known if the treatment affects the fetus or not, pregnant women should not have the treatment done. According to certain studies, the sound waves could affect the unborn child’s hearing and immune system. Women going through infertility treatment should also avoid this procedure.

People with the following conditions should NOT proceed with this procedure:

*Heart disease

*Hypertension

*Diabetes

*Kidney or liver problems

*High cholesterol levels

*Epilepsy

*Osteoporosis

Before and After Cavitation Treatment

Before considering the cavitation treatment, you should be living a moderately active lifestyle and have a healthy diet. Before getting the treatment done, it is recommended to drink at least eight cups of water every day. These fluids are important because they process the extra triglycerides and fat in your body so it can be released with the treatment.

It is best to avoid alcohol consumption, as it may affect your liver’s functionality that is going to play a significant role in releasing those substances. Also, avoid getting tanned, as it may increase your skins sensitivity to the ultrasonic waves used during the treatment. After the cavitation treatment, you should continue to drink plenty of water and exercise regularly to process the substances released during the treatment.

Is the Cavitation Treatment Worth It?

The cavitation treatment can be worth it as it is an effective weight loss treatment and shapes your body to your liking. If you eat healthy and live a moderately active lifestyle, then this is the treatment for you. If you have fatty areas that will not go away with diet and exercise, then this treatment may be the way to go for you. This treatment will help you with fat loss reduction and get you on your way to the figure you have always dreamed of.

Have you ever wondered the exact difference between balayage and full highlights? Well, there really is a difference between the two. After reading this blog, you will be up to date on telling your hairstylist exactly what you want.

Full Highlights

A common mistake when it comes to describing full highlights is that they are streaks of blonde hair that run through a brown base color. That’s not exactly the case here! Highlights are small sections of your hair that are lighter than your base color.

So, someone with a dark brown base color could get light brown highlights while golden blonde highlights would complement deep honey blonde hair.

When it comes to applying full highlights, they are done with the help of aluminum foils. The dye is applied from the roots to the tips and covered with foils to trap in the heat and lighten your hair more drastically.

The size, placement, and tone of the highlights can be planned according to the hairstyle that you are going for. Just make sure to tell your hairstylist your plan!

Now, What is Balayage?

Balayage is a French word that means “to sweep”.

When applying, the dye is swept on or painted onto sections of your hair in a freehand manner. Normally, the dye starts from the middle of your hair to the ends. First, the dye is applied to the bottom section of your head, which is the neck on down. Then, it is worked up to the midsection of your head. Finally, the top of your head will be colored at the end.

Balayage ends up looking like thick highlights that are just a few shades lighter than your base color. Balayage highlights add a ton of depth and dimension to your hair. The color adds a perfect sunkissed look to your hair!

Down to the Nitty Gritty, What is the Real Difference?

Highlights follow a more structured pattern and are more carefully placed than balayage. Balayage is more hand-painted on into larger sections of your hair. So, balayage blends more seaminglessly into your hair than highlights.

If your want more intensely lightened highlights, then you should go for the full highlight look as they use aluminum foils to saturate the color. Balayage is just a few shades lighter than your base color and adds a softer, more blended look to your hair.

First of all – why not? Customized color is created just for you! You’re special and worth it!  The answer is simple. Do you want healthy, beautiful vibrant hair? Professionals have practiced their skills to be the best at what they do.  Think about it, most Professionals color at least  4 – 5 clients in a day.

All Over Color Versus Retouch! What’s the difference?

All over color and retouch are completely different!

Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to explain. Getting “all over color” differs from a “retouch” because it is all over your hair. It’s a root to ends application. A “retouch” is used when there is a line of demarcation. It goes from your roots to that line where the color was applied.

All over color initially costs more because you are changing your hair color. To maintain this new color, you will need to be on a schedule to return for a retouch. This is typically in 4 to 8 weeks and depends on what color you choose and your natural hair color.

A retouch is an application of color that is only intended to last for 3 or 4 weeks. You will need to return to the salon to maintain the color. When to return will depend on the color that has been chosen and the re-growth line of demarcation.

It does not necessarily benefit you to wait to come in for a retouch. If you return in 8 weeks you still will have a line of demarcation that should have been retouched 3 or 4 weeks prior. So that means that there is now more hair to cover (from the line of demarcation to your roots). That means that more color product has to be used, and it will take longer for your stylist to do this correctly – hence the cost will be higher than a normal retouch.

Benefits of using a professional hair colorist

We all have a choice about where to go for hair color.
Here are some reasons to use a Professional Hair Colorist:

  • First – the color looks professional! It’s not haphazard!
  • Professional hair colorists are trained in choosing the correct palettes.
  • The color tones that professionals have access to are ricer and more vibrant.
  • Confidence that your color has been customized just for you.
  • Less fading when used in conjunction with your take home care package! This helps with the care necessary to maintain your beautiful color.
  • The texture type of your hair influences how the color goes on your hair. Some textures are more resistant to color. This is all taken into consideration when a professional colors your hair.
  • Maintenance guesswork is eliminated. You will know when to have your next treatment so that your color can be properly maintained.
  • Professional hair stylists have a wide range of colors to choose from. This makes for true custom hair colors.
  • The color a professional creates for you will be much closer to what you had in mind than color from a box will be.
  • You get specific recommendations for products that will work with your hair color and texture type. It is not hit or miss – the recommendations are based in knowledge and experience.

How often should you get your hair colored?

A professional hair colorist takes into consideration many factors when creating the perfect color formula for your hair. This includes the texture of your hair, the amount of gray in your hair, and the length of your hair.

A consultation prior to any coloring or cuts, is vital to determining what your goals are for your hair.

Once both you and your colorist know what you are trying to achieve, then a plan can be formulated. The plan takes into account realistic times frames for maintenance, budget considerations, and of course, your customized hair style.

After a recent cold I was left with what felt like water in my right ear. It was that congested feeling you get after swimming and you have to jump on one leg trying to get the water out.  But I didn’t go swimming. It didn’t help that I also have constant ringing in that same ear. A quick check confirmed that it wasn’t an ear infection, so no antibiotics. I took some over the counter allergy medicine that did nothing to relieve the congestion. I started thinking that my Eustachian tube might be inflamed or congested. The Eustachian tube is a canal that connects the middle ear to the upper throat and the back of the nasal cavity.

The Eustachian tube’s job is to:

  • balance pressure in the middle ear, keeping it equal with air pressure outside the body;
  • protect the inner ear from nasal secretions;
  • drain middle ear secretions into the area between the nasal cavity and upper throat.

When I experienced the congestion, the typical medical approach was to treat symptoms (e.g., with antibiotics, decongestants). No to the antibiotics, but yes to the decongestants. The holistic approach includes natural medicines and Eustachian Tube Massage (ETM), which can alleviate congestion and the discomfort it causes by stretching the soft tissue that lines the tube. This helps reduce pressure and promotes release of fluid from the tube. You can perform ETM on yourself.

How to perform Eustachian Tube Massage:

  1. After washing your hands, use your index or middle finger to feel behind the ear lobe for a bony bump. With firm, steady pressure slide your finger down until it slips into a groove between the ear lobe and the jaw.
  2. Follow that groove down the neck with your finger, sliding down (with same steady pressure) until you reach the collar bone.
  3. For a child or small adult, it may help to tilt your head to the shoulder opposite the ear that you are massaging. (Ex: If massaging right side, tilt head to left shoulder)
  4. Repeat three to four times per side, about three times a day.

You can also schedule a massage with one of our skilled massage therapists.  The 30 minute Scalp, Neck and Shoulder Massage would be a great massage to address congested Eustachian tubes. Always consult your medical professional before seeking out alternative treatments. You would be surprised how many medical professionals also seek out massage services!

A month ago I looked in the mirror and saw some find lines and wrinkles that weren’t there before. Before what you might ask? Before I turned 50, before I realized I spent my youth sunbathing without sunscreen, before I went through “the change”, before I looked in a magnified mirror. So many befores. With my youngest son’s upcoming wedding I decided I wanted to try and erase some of these befores. After researching different techniques I decided to try a series of Micro-Needling with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). I read about so many wonderful benefits to using your own plasma in a skin or hair treatment that I was intrigued. Some of the benefits are:

BENEFITS of AESTHETIC PRP:

  •  Your own stem cells are mobilized
  • Allergies are eliminated because you use your own blood
  • Rejuvenating skin effects are: improvements in skin texture and fine lines and wrinkles, increased volume because of the increase in collagen and elastin, and improving the appearance of scars.
  • Minimal down time
  • No surgery or anesthesia

THE TREATMENT:

The treatment started by Karen Stevens, APRN, numbing my face with a topical numbing cream. Besides my lips feeling funny, the numbing felt okay (although I did dribble a bit when I drank from a cup later on that day). Side note- I wanted to take an Aleve prior to the treatment to help alleviate any discomfort, but I found out it was one of the medicines to avoid; so it’s very important to follow the pre and post treatment instructions. Karen then drew a tube of blood and put it in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma from the red blood cells and the platelet poor plasma. Next my face was micro-needled using a special micro-needling tool and the PRP was concurrently used on my skin. Some of the bony areas like the forehead and nose were a little sensitive. The rest of the face I could feel the needles, but it was all tolerable.

Immediately after the treatment my face was red like I was sunburned. It also felt warm to the touch. I left it alone for a few hours and then applied cool water to it. The water caused quite a sting. The stinging sensation subsided quickly, though. Before bed I washed my face with a gentle cleanser and applied a serum. The next day my skin looked suntanned. The day after it started peeling. I’ve had an herbal peel before and the peeling with the herbal peel was similar to the micro-needling, except maybe a bit more peeling with the micro needling. My skin continued to peel for about a week. I used a microderm creme to slough away some of the dead skin and my favorite moisturizer to keep my skin moist. My daily skin care routine helped calm my skin and helped it heal. An SPF was also recommended but I didn’t use it since I had the first service done the week it was overcast and I also work indoors.

The second treatment was exactly like the first: numbing, micro needling, PRP, and lots of peeling. I did the same post care regiment; except I did use sunblock this time around.

THE OUTCOME:

I’ve completed two out of the three treatments. What I see so far is smoother, firmer skin. Some of the fine lines seem to have diminished. I have an age spot on my jaw line that also appears lighter. My makeup goes on smoother and my skin has a glow to it. But how do I really know my skin looks better? My husband asked what I’m doing differently because I look different, younger. This is a BIG deal since it comes from the same person who didn’t notice I colored my hair peacock blue!

There are many factors that affect a picture of newly highlighted or colored hair.   Our stylists share some of their insights on the expectations vs what the reality is when it comes to outcome.

LIGHTING

Lighting can affect the outcome of a picture. The picture on the left was taken inside the salon and the one on the right by the front receptionist area. The only difference is salon lights vs natural lighting.

This is stylist Amanda’s highlights and the actual color is the warm, golden blonde highlights on the left. The technique used was Balayage and was completed in one session. Two separate highlight sessions would be needed to achieve the cool results on the right. Brazilian Bonder would be added to keep the integrity of the hair and a toner to get the cool color. At home maintenance would also be important to keep the results. Blondor shampoo should be used every other time you shampoo to keep your toner fresh, and Cashmere Shampoo and Moxie Conditioner used to keep your hair healthy.

FILTERS

There are so many apps and programs on the market that can alter the reality of a photo.  The photo above is changed from highlighted Ombre to an Ombre with fun colors. Stylist Mayce says it’s not impossible to get the look on the right using an Ombre technique and toner. Something to keep in mind is because the fun colors are not permanent color this would fade from a purplish/pink to a pastel pink rather quickly.

CAMERA

The camera used makes a big difference, too. The picture on the left is the actual result of highlights and toning and taken with an iPhone cell phone camera. The one on the right is taken with the same lighting, but with a Samsung phone camera. Kristin states that if the picture on the right was presented, it would be quite tricky to duplicate since it’s not an accurate representation of the actual color.

These days there are so many different ways a picture can be altered. Some of these ways are unintentional and some on purpose to make something look like what it isn’t. Filters are probably the biggest culprit. So the next time you’re looking for a new do, come in and talk to a stylist for a consultation – it’s complimentary!

A massage using CBD offers an unconventional way to get relief from muscle soreness, chronic pain, tension and stress.

Massage Benefits

  • Stress relief. Can lower heart rate and blood pressure in just one session of a massage. Adding CBD to your massage routine can significantly reduce stress levels.
  • Relaxation. Getting a massage will force you relax. Your body’s cortisol levels will decrease allowing you to be relaxed and restful.
  • Muscles. If you suffer from neck or back pain, releasing tension from your muscles might be what you are looking for. Massage therapy will help relax any tense muscles.
  • Headaches. Treat headaches and tension related headaches with a massage. By focusing on the neck, shoulders and head, tension that causes a headache is released.
  • Improves posture. Poor posture can have cruel effects on the body. Muscles are loose as the tension leaves; there is more flexibility in the body.

Incorporating CBD into Massage Therapy

The benefits of both massage therapy and CBD individually provide great relief to the body. When CBD is incorporated into massage therapy the results can be more intense. CBD will bind and act on the CB2 receptors which can be found near the skin. This will activate the endocannabinoid system to deliver pain relief.

Since CBD is non-psychoactive you do not have to worry about getting a high feeling from the CBD massage. It is derived from Hemp extracts and contains 0 % THC

CBD Can Benefit Your Health in Many Ways

CBD works on a cellular level and absorbs into your skin. It seems to work wonders for a wide variety of conditions. There are over 125 terpenes and over 80 cannabinoids in hemp and each strain has its own unique blend with different health benefits. Many studies have shown a variety of positive effects hemp extracts have on your body including pain relief , anti-inflammation , anxiety, stress relief, appetite, sleep, nausea and neuro protectants just to name a few.

The CBD Hemp Extract used in the massage is a plant based pain relief solution made with the highest quality organic ingredients. It’s NON-GMO, Cruelty Free, Deep Penetrating, Paraben Free and Made in the USA.

Washing your face may seem simple, but there’s actually an art to it. Let’s talk about the right way to clean your skinand we’ve got all the details right here. The most important thing? Making sure your face is clean, toned, and moisturized before you put on makeup or get into bed, since your skin rejuvenates naturally when you sleep. It may sound like a lot of work, but we’re here to make it easy for you.

Read on for our five simple steps to correctly washing your face:

Step #1: Wash your face with lukewarm water and a cleanser. Warm water helps lift the dirt out of your skin, but hot water can be too drying. Cleansers are hydrating, but if you wear a lot of makeup, you might also want to use a makeup remover.  After washing, dab your face with a toweldon’t rub. It will stretch your skin and lead to wrinkles.

Step #2: Take a cotton ball and dip it in toner and swipe it around your face, focusing on problem areas. For example, if you have an oily t-zone, toner is a huge help. You don’t need a lot! Just one soaked cotton ball is perfect.

Step #3: Serum is like vitamins for your skin. There are some amazing high-end ones, but you don’t need to spend to over due itwe have some amazing ones that you can get at our on line store. Use one or two pumps for your entire face. This is also a great way to address any specific issues you have with your skin, because they make serums for everything: anti-aging, moisturizing, redness, etc.

Step #4: You can also mix your serum in with your moisturizer, which cuts down on a step. For night, pick a heavier moisturizer, but for day, make sure you choose one with SPF if you’re not going to apply sunscreen on your own.

Step #5: The last stepdon’t forget your eye cream! The under eye area is the thinnest part of your skin, so it’s desperate for moisture. Massage or pat a pea-sized amount of eye cream under your eyes about half an inch under your brow bone. If you’re putting on makeup afterwards, wait a few minutes so the cream can sink in.

Hello my fabulous readers!

I wanted to write a post all about makeup tips and maybe a couple tricks! I hope you enjoy!

Tip #1: Knowing your skin type.

We all have different skin. Normal, oily, dry, normal-dry, normal-oily, combo skin etc. Step one will always be knowing your skin type. This determines what moisturizer you use, what primer you use and of course what foundation you apply! No one knows your skin better than yourself, so you tell me! What type of skin do you have? Once you’ve decided then you can go forward and purchase the products best for your skin! At Elements Salon and Wellness Spa we offer skin products for ALL skin types! So don’t forget to check that out!

Tip #2: Eyes=Prize.

The best part of makeup (in my professional opinion) is the EYES! Lets make your eyes pop! Your eyes should be the main focus of your face! How to make your eyes pop you may ask?! Wear the right colors of eye shadow! This is EASY! Depending on your eye color these shadows are really going to make your eyes POP!

Blue: BROWNS, purples, greens, BLACKS

Green: PURPLES, browns

Brown: Bronzy browns, COPPERS

Hazel: Creams, GOLDS, greens

Tip #3: Clear skin.

Having clear skin is so beneficial and important! Not just important for wearing makeup. Luckily makeup covers up most blemishes but we all want that baby bottom soft skin! Right?! How can you accomplish this? MONTHLY facials, (our outstanding Aestheticians can tell you what facial is best for your skin type! Just give us a call or stop by!) using the correct skin products DAILY,(our Aestheticians will also recommend the best skin products from our salon to you that will benefit your skin the most!) drinking lots of water, eating the right foods,(see my previous blog post for foods that benefit your skin to get a great list of foods!) etc.

Tip #4: Comfortable.

You may think what does being comfortable have to do with makeup?! EVERYTHING. Being comfortable with the amount you’re wearing. If you aren’t, you won’t feel like your self and we don’t want that! Be your beautiful self! Wear what you want and don’t wear what you’re not comfortable with. Put loads on or just brighten up your face a bit! Makeup is not required it’s a choice!

Tip #5: The right shades.

My final tip for you guys is simple. Wearing the right shades for you face! Cool, warm and neutral toned shades. This depends on your skin type! You DON’T have to follow this tip! Wear what YOU want! My skin tone and eye color pop the best with warm toned shades but sometimes I feel like wearing cool toned shades! But if you really want to make features pop this is a good one!

Warm skinned:

People with warm skin tones look best in you guessed it!! Warm colors. Duh! Lol! You can reach for oranges, orange-reds, peachy pinks, bronze, browns, and golds. Try out a peach or orange blush! Lips, it’s best to go with orange reds instead of berry-toned reds to really pop!

Cool skinned:

If your skin is light or dark, you will benefit with cool tones! Like wearing cool pinks, purples, reds, blues, greens, and grays. Instead of reaching for a peachy pink blush, grab a more vibrant pink. Cherry reds and fuchsia would look fabulous on your lips! Gray and deep purple eye shadows make cool eyes pop!

Neutral Skinned:

If you’re neutral skinned you’re the LUCKY ONES! You’re a chameleon! You can wear whatever colors and shades you want! Everything looks flattering on you!

REMEMBER: Wear what feels best to YOU makeup is fun! These are tips not rules!

Ultrasonic facial treatments cleanse, repair and stimulate the skin by using a machine that emits gentle sonic waves.  It uses ultrasound to loosen and remove dead skin cells and restore the natural charge to cells. The process is safe and is perfect for sensitive, sun-damaged, and acne prone skin.

What is an Ultrasonic Facial?

This high-tech facial uses a specialized ultrasonic/ultrasound machine that emits high-frequency waves. Ultrasonic treatments benefit a variety of skin types and can improve many common skin conditions. Your aesthetician will customize your ultrasonic facial according to your skin type and skincare needs.

In a treatment, the ultrasonic machine’s high-frequency waves work to:

  • Exfoliate dead skin cells for clear and radiant skin without the redness or irritation.
  • Loosen and remove oil, dirt and sebum from the pores and hair follicles, resulting in less blackheads and breakouts. Ultrasonic frequency zaps bacteria and decongests the pores. The result? Clear, healthy skin with noticeably tighter pores.
  • Gently stimulate skin to encourage collagen and elastin production. With a series of treatments, fine lines and wrinkles are less noticeable and skin color, tone and texture becomes more even and uniform.
  • Stimulate blood flow and lymphatic drainage through the combination of ultrasound and electrical therapy. This nourishes the skin and gives it a youthful rosy glow.
  • Facilitate hydration and plump the skin, thereby filling out fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Help skincare products do their job by penetrating deeper into the skin. This is especially true for anti-aging and antioxidant serums, creams and masks. n.
  • Safe for most people: The sonic waves emitted by the ultrasound machine aren’t harmful to your health. However, if you have an autoimmune disorder, a diagnosed heart disorder or cancer, it’s best to skip the ultrasonic treatment. Anyone living with a chronic health condition or are pregnant should check with his or her physician before proceeding with any aesthetic treatment.

The ultrasonic facial is gentle, non-invasive suitable for most skin types, from acne to rosacea to sun-damaged skin. Once your skin is rejuvenated and healthy looking, maintain your results with monthly ultrasonic facials.

Hello again to my frequent readers and hello to my new ones, too. We’re going to talk about obtaining and maintaining beautiful and healthy nails. With short winters (even though it’s Vegas it gets pretty cold!) and long summers, it’s not just our skin that will be going through some changes, our nails will as well! They can tend to get a bit dry and even brittle in some cases. Also, as some of us love to get manicures (acrylics, gel, or regular polish), our nails go through the wringer a bit in between manicures. So to help combat and minimize any (further) damage, we at Elements have a wonderful treatment called IBX! Just a short summary as to what it is: a treatment that helps to condition and strengthen the nail, whether you’re in between manicures or you just want to give your nails a little TLC.  This treatment doesn’t just SIT on the nails but actually PENETRATES the nail bed.

Now, while most of us have minor nail issues, I am providing a short list to show you a few examples of what your nails might be trying to tell you.  Now don’t freak out beauties, these are just symptoms/signs to look out for so you can keep your nails healthy and strong. Of course, as you know, I am NOT doctor, and neither are some of you so I don’t want you self-diagnosing. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed, please visit your REAL doctor:

*THICK NAILS – This may indicate that the vascular system is weakening and the blood is not circulating properly. It can also be a sign of thyroid disease.

*WHITE LINES – This can show possible signs of heart disease, high fever, or arsenic poisoning.

*WIDE NAILS – If your nails are unusually square and wide, this could indicate a hormonal disorder.

*SEPARATING – Nails separating form the nail bed can be due to injury or infection, a reaction to a drug, thyroid disease, or psoriasis. While infections can occur underneath the nail bed during separation, most times the nails will re-attach themselves to the bed within a few months. If this doesn’t happen and you feel it could be much more serious, please see your doctor immediately.

*DARK BLUE BAND – An isolated dark blue band in the nail, especially in fairer-skinned people, can be a sign of skin cancer.

*CHIPPED, CRACKED, OR PEELING – Nails that chip, crack, or peel can show a general nutritional deficiency, insufficient hydrochloric acid and protein. Minerals are also needed. So take those vitamins ladies! (and gentlemen!).

So there you have it folks! While manicures are fabulous, it is very important to take care of ourselves inside as well as out.  Our nails can also serve as barometers to inform us if we’re doing just fine or if we need to take a little extra care. Also, for more information on our new IBX treatment, please visit us and one of our talented and knowledgeable nail techs will be more than happy to fill you in! Thanks for reading!
